The apostle Paul founded and established the Church at Ephesus and commended them for their faith and love. But, after a few generations, though their good works, labor, and their perseverance continues to shine in that church, their love for Jesus and each other has grown cold. They have left their first love. What they used to do out of relationship; love for the Lord and for one another, they now do out of duty and dead religion. We too, if we’re not careful, can fall into a routine of just serving out of duty, religion, and appearances, instead of the joy, excitement and devotion of when we were first saved. If we lose our love for the Lord we will eventually lose our love for each other and vice versa. If we recognize this, we are to remember how we used to serve out of love, repent, and go back to our first works; just as Jesus commanded to Ephesian believers to do.
