Spiritual adversity separated the faithful and the pretenders. The Apostle Paul experiencing adversity because of his faithful service to Christ and the Gospel was now suffering for his commitment to finish well. Others mentioned in this section we’re studying today were either helping the cause of the Gospel or running away from the consequences of being followers of Christ. The goal he had was to encourage Timothy to find and entrust to faithful men the truths of Christ to those who would carry on the message and job of world evangelism after they were no longer able to because of death. May we by His grace stay strong and not retreat from the teachings we have received concerning Christ crucified and resurrected for our salvation and those who believe the message we now proclaim.
