Freedom in Christ - 1 Corinthians 10:18-33
In the early church, during the beginnings of Christ followers, there was much confusion regarding what was acceptable and what wasn’t acceptable to do as believers. Some things were cultural, some were sensual, and some were influenced by evil.
Paul was responsible for teaching the church and believers how to maneuver the fallen world and its sinful ways and influences without falling victim to sin because of how people lived in the world. So he taught first what honors and dishonors God, and also not to use their newfound freedom in Christ to possibly stumble other believers. The famous verse is that all things are lawful, but not all things are expedient—the warning I would not be brought under the power and influences of ungodliness.
Even today, there are disagreements between Christians regarding what is right and wrong for the child of God according to the Word of God. We need the Holy Spirit to give us a sensitivity to His leading.
